FILM COLCHESTER is a group dedicated to film making. We run Film Making and Screen Writers meetings and a Sunday Film Shoot event where we aim to provide a relaxed and friendly atmosphere in which all members will have the opportunity to take part.
We're an extremely friendly group and always welcome new members. We're based in Colchester, but you don't necessarily need to be from Colchester, we have members from all over the region so welcome anyone who is able and wants to attend. You don't have to own your own equipment to join, all that’s required is an interest in film and film making.
Our members range from beginners to professionals so whatever your skill levels your welcome to come along. This isn't just for those wanting to direct but anyone interested in the different aspects of filmmaking: acting, cinematography, scriptwriting, visual effects, etc. Whether your ambition is to pursue a career in film or make films for fun we look forward to hearing from you.

SCREEN WRITERS MEETINGS
Our screenwriter meetings are run on the FIRST and THIRD WEDNESDAY of each month from 19:30 - 21:30.
The Screen Writers group was setup to offer support and advice for screenwriters and people interested in screenwriting. Our meetings are designed so you can share your scripts, treatments and ideas and act as a way to give and get constructive feedback and advice which will hopefully improve your work.
If you're unable to attend meetings but will want feedback on your own work in the future you can still provide feedback for others work via e-mail and we'll read it out at the meeting.
If you're on facebook you can get more info via the Colchester ScreenWriters Page.
FILM SHOOT SUNDAY

The Film Shoot Sunday event takes place on the FOURTH SUNDAY of each month from 10:30 - 17:00.
The basic ideas is turn, split into groups and create anything from short films, music video, viral video, experimental video, effects test etc. Throughout the day we'll require actors, film makers and anyone who wants to get involved, whatever your skill levels your welcome to come along.
There will be some equipment available, but if you have your own camera and equipment please bring them along. If however you wish to be involved editing the films, please bring an external hard drive, memory stick/cards or laptop so you can get a copy of the footage at the end of the shoot.
Times for the day will be very flexible so if you can't make 10:30am let us know and we can arrange for you to meet us at a later time. The end time will vary depending on when we finish shooting, but again if you need to leave early this is flexible. We'll have a break for lunch so please provide you're own food and drink but we should be finished before dinner time.
If you're on facebook you can get more info via the Film Shoot Sunday group.
HOW DO I BECOME A MEMBER?
There are no official forms you need to fill out to become a member. So just come along to a meeting, introduce yourself and get involved, as much or as little as you like or are able to.
WHAT DOES IT COST?
There are NO membership fees
We want the group to be all inclusive so don't want money to be a barrier for anyone to be involved. The idea is to develop the group on a non-profit basis, through this we hope to keep costs as low as possible and any money to be used for our members benefit.
We do charge £1 per person a meeting (£2 for Film Shoot Sunday) to cover running costs for meetings such as room hire. No one within the group is paid for their time so any excess money is used for our members benefit.

Colchester plays home to a vast array of creative talent – from artists, graphic designers, poets and tailors to milliners, musicians, film-makers, cooks and thespians… the list is endless.
Until now, this talent has been largely disconnected. Without a place to collaborate and flourish, they have been forced to leave Colchester in order to practice their trade elsewhere.
In response to this challenge, firstsite has collaborated with the Arts Council and The Creative Coop to seize an incredible opportunity to make use of a three storey Georgian building, right in the heart of the town centre. This building is called 15 Queen Street and the vision is to create a community owned space that helps creativity flourish at grass roots level in Colchester.
